Reports from Corelogic, a property data collection company reveals the estimated residential and commercial wind and storm surge loss – the result is quite disheartening!

A whopping figure of $2.2 billion and $3.5 billion comes up as an estimate for the insured wind losses for both residential and commercial properties in the tri-state area; Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Additionally, the insured storm surge losses are estimated at $300 – 500 billion.

Hurricane Zeta was officially rated Category 2 – reportedly to be a strong hurricane!

Though rated Category 2, it was only 1 mile per hour away from being rated as Category 3 level of intensity. The hurricane packed a maximum sustained surface wind speed of 110 miles per hour.

Louisiana was still recovering from the previous four storms — with thousands of people still displaced from their damaged homes and had to face another storm again through Zeta.

Curtis McDonald, meteorologist and senior product manager of CoreLogic, shares his comment on Hurricane Zeta’s aftermath:  “With one month to go, this hurricane season has been incredibly destructive due to the consistent cadence of storms and their too-similar landfall paths. While southwestern Louisiana was largely spared from Hurricane Zeta, New Orleans fell directly in the storm’s quick-moving path.
